The founding fathers of our college had the foresight to envision the need for a new higher education institution in the rural and remote greater Bakulguri area to cater to its needs. This vision and zeal, led to the initiative of establishing the Brahmaputra Degree College in the year 1993, as a Venture Educational Institution. English being an essential component of the undergraduate curricula and as a compulsory subject for the BA courses under the Dibrugarh University, the department of English was incorporated as an integral department since the very inception of the college. At the beginning, the academic activities of the department was managed by a pool of eminent retired educationist from the region until the appointment of its permanent faculty members. Mr. Elias Hasan, the present Head of the Department, was the first faculty to be appointed in the department in the year 2002, followed by Mr. Pradip Patir, in the year 2009 and Mr. Debajit Doley in the year 2010. Since then, the English department has been playing a very important role in the progress of the college by serving the needs of English Studies among students and also the common folks of this rural area. The college has yet to introduce Major Course in English and as such only offers General Courses under the Dibrugarh University in its undergraduate programme.
